Puerto España – Trinidad y Tobago, el 27 de febrero de 2026. El Embajador de Colombia en Trinidad y Tobago, William Bush, asistió a la 25.ª Reunión de la Comisión del Mar Caribe en la sede de la Asociación de Estados del Caribe (AEC).
Esta reunión brindó la oportunidad de debatir los avances realizados por la Comisión en el año transcurrido desde su última reunión, incluidas las novedades sobre proyectos como el Centro Conjunto de Investigación Oceanográfica Corea-AEC en Santa Marta, Colombia. Además, su objetivo principal fue la revisión y aprobación del Plan de Trabajo para el período 2025-2026 por parte de los asistentes, entre los que se encontraban la secretaria general de la Asociación de Estados del Caribe (AEC); Noemí Espinoza Madrid, el Embajador de Corea; Seijoong Kwon, el Embajador de México; Víctor Hugo Morales Meléndez, junto con representantes de la Embajada de Cuba, la Embajada de España y la Embajada de Panamá.
Los debates se centraron en el compromiso de resaltar el mar Caribe en el contexto del desarrollo sostenible, y varios asistentes reafirmaron que debe seguir siendo una prioridad para la Asociación. Se destacaron la contaminación marina, la pérdida de biodiversidad, la sobreexplotación de los recursos y la crisis del sargazo que azota la región para subrayar la urgencia de la gestión propuesta de esta iniciativa de larga data.
Colombia reafirmó su firme apoyo a la cooperación regional en el marco de la Comisión del Mar Caribe y reiteró su compromiso de promover la acción colectiva destinada a proteger el Mar Caribe para las generaciones presentes y futuras.

His Excellency William Bush, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Trinidad and Tobago attended the 25th Meeting of the Caribbean Sea Commission at the headquarters of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) on the 27th February 2026.
This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the progress made by the Commission in the year following its last meeting, including updates on projects such as the Korea-ACS Joint Oceanographic Research Centre in Santa Marta, Colombia. Further to this, its main purpose was the review and approval of the Work Plan for the period 2025-2026 by its attendees, including the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Her Excellency Noemí Espinoza Madrid, the Ambassador of Korea, His Excellency Seijoong Kwon, the Ambassador of Mexico, His Excellency Víctor Hugo Morales Meléndez along with representatives from the Embassy of Cuba, the Embassy of Spain and the Embassy of Panama.
Discussions centred around commitment to highlighting the Caribbean Sea in the Context of Sustainable Development, with several attendees reaffirming that it should remain a priority for the Association. Marine pollution, loss of biodiversity, overexploitation of resources and the sargassum crisis plaguing the region were highlighted to underscore the urgency in the proposed management of this longstanding endeavour.
Colombia reaffirmed its strong support for regional cooperation within the framework of the Caribbean Sea Commission and reiterated its commitment to advancing collective action aimed at protecting the Caribbean Sea for present and future generations.
